Writers @ Sea

Writers @ Sea, a floating writers workshop, offers a unique opportunity to develop your craft in a tropical paradise. Participants enjoy an all-inclusive along Florida’s southeast coast aboard the Oliver Hazard Perry, the first teaching vessel of its kind. You will have the opportunity to partake in hands-on sailing and navigational responsibilities under the direction of captain and crew. Ample time for reflection and writing is built into the schedule.

Intensive three-hour workshops in poetry, fiction, and non-fiction are held each morning. Each workshop is structured to focus primarily on student works, and class sizes are small to ensure that every writer’s work receives focused attention. Some faculty incorporate brief craft discussions or writing exercises into the workshop experience so that you have inspiration to write even after the conference is over. The program offers public readings and afternoon craft lectures by the workshop faculty. Workshop participants also have the opportunity to read their own work at open mic performances.

In addition to afternoon craft lectures by the workshop faculty, the program has partnered with Beating Windward Press to sponsor special panel discussions on navigating the publishing world. Topics include overviews on independent presses, e-books, self-publishing, social media, and much more.
